I am deeply honored and profoundly humbled to announce that my painting “Adagio” has been awarded the AWS Bronze Medal of Honor (Courtesy of Clara and Ida Wells Stroud) at the prestigious American Watercolor Society's 159th Annual International Exhibition at the historic Salmagundi Club on Fifth Avenue, New York.

My sincere gratitude to the American Watercolor Society for this prestigious recognition, and a heartfelt thank you to the 2026 Jury of Awards for this incredible honor: Elaine Daily-Birnbaum, William G. Hook, and Ken Goldman.

Returning to New York for this exhibition feels like a very special milestone. As a Juilliard alumna whose studies in the city were made possible through a personal scholarship from the legendary arts patron Michel Roux (Carillon Importers/Absolut Vodka), it truly feels as though the circle is closing. I find myself returning to the city where I once studied the phrasing of music, but this time, instead of my flute, I bring with me the soft Nordic light captured in my watercolors. In 'Adagio,' I have tried to explore the quiet, soulful stillness that I feel connects both of these worlds.

AWS Traveling Exhibition 2026-2027
I am also thrilled to share that "Adagio" has been selected for the AWS Traveling Exhibition. Following the New York showcase, the painting will embark on a year-long nationwide tour to museums and galleries across the United States, including venues in Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas, and Florida.

Life in New York – A Musical and Personal Journey

During my time at The Juilliard School, my life was deeply intertwined with the city’s rich cultural history. I lived at the prestigious address of West End Avenue and 99th Street on the Upper West Side, a creative sanctuary right by Riverside Park and just a short walk from Lincoln Center. In this vibrant environment, I shared a home with the legendary tap dance icon Harold Nicholas (of the world-famous Nicholas Brothers). Our breakfast conversations provided me with a profound, first-hand insight into world-class artistry and the discipline required to reach the pinnacle of one’s craft.

This cross-cultural friendship endured over the years, with Harold and his Swedish wife, Rigmor Newman, later visiting me in my home in Sweden. Rigmor, a star in her own right and a cornerstone of the New York jazz scene, passed away in the spring of 2025. Returning to New York now to receive this medal feels like a heartfelt tribute to their memory and the time we shared on West End Avenue.​​​

Music is my Bridge

Music is my brush and my bridge into the painting. I let the music guide every brushstroke and choice of color. Specializing in Nordic Tonalism, I translate musical rhythm and light into atmospheric landscapes. In this meeting between two worlds, my artistry has emerged like a 'Black Swan' – an unexpected yet inevitable force where the discipline of Juilliard has found its ultimate expression through pigment and water. Without music, the white paper remains silent, but through its phrasing, timbre, and orchestration, landscapes emerge from my imagination—becoming places where the soul finds peace. As a tribute to the music, each watercolour often bears the name of the piece that brought it to life.

Det är med en enorm ödmjukhet och stolthet som jag kan meddela att min målning ”Adagio” har tilldelats medaljen AWS Bronze Medal of Honor (donerad av Clara och Ida Wells Stroud) vid det prestigefyllda American Watercolor Society och deras 159:e årliga internationella utställning på historiska Salmagundi Club i New York.

Jag vill rikta ett varmt tack till American Watercolor Society för detta prestigefyllda erkännande, och ett innerligt tack till 2026 års jury för denna stora ära: Elaine Daily-Birnbaum, William G. Hook och Ken Goldman.

Att återvända till New York för den här utställningen är en milstolpe. Som alumn från The Juilliard School – där mina studier en gång möjliggjordes genom ett personligt stipendium från den legendariske konstmeceanten Michel Roux (Absolut Vodka/Carillon Importers) – känns det som om cirkeln nu sluts. Jag återvänder till staden där jag en gång studerade musikens frasering, men denna gång har jag inte med mig min flöjt – utan istället har jag med mig det mjuka nordiska ljuset fångat i mina akvareller. I ”Adagio” har jag försökt utforska den stillsamma, själfulla ro som jag känner förenar just dessa båda världar.

Jag är även oerhört glad över att kunna berätta att ”Adagio” har blivit utvald till AWS Traveling Exhibition. Efter utställningen i New York kommer målningen att påbörja en ettårig turné till museum och konsthallar över hela USA, med stopp i bland annat Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas och Florida.

Livet i New York - En musikalisk och personlig resa

Under min tid vid The Juilliard School var mitt liv djupt sammanflätat med New Yorks rika kulturhistoria. Jag bodde på den anrika adressen West End Avenue och 99:e gatan på Upper West Side – en kreativ oas intill Riverside Park och bara ett stenkast från Lincoln Center. I denna levande miljö delade jag hem med den legendariske steppdansikonen Harold Nicholas (ena halvan av världsberömda The Nicholas Brothers). Våra frukostsamtal gav mig en unik och djup insikt i ett artisteri av absolut världsklass och den disciplin som krävs för att nå den högsta nivån inom sitt fält.

​

Denna vänskap bestod genom åren och Harold och hans svenska fru, Rigmor Newman, gästade senare även mig i mitt hem i Sverige. Rigmor, som själv var en firad stjärna och en centralgestalt i New Yorks jazzvärld, gick bort våren 2025. Att nu återvända till New York för att ta emot min medalj känns som en varm hyllning till deras minne och den tid vi delade på West End Avenue.

Musiken är min Bro

Musiken är min pensel och bro in i bilden. Jag låter musiken vägleda varje penseldrag och färgval. Med inriktning på Nordisk Tonalism översätter jag musikens rytm och ljus till atmosfäriska landskap. I detta möte mellan två världar har mitt konstnärskap vuxit fram likt en "Black Swan" – en oväntad men obeveklig kraft där disciplinen från Juilliard har funnit sitt uttryck genom pigment och vatten. Utan musiken förblir det vita arket tyst, men genom musikens frasering, klangfärg och orkestrering så växer landskapen fram ur min fantasi och blir till platser där själen får ro. Som en hyllning till musiken bär därför varje akvarell ofta ett namn som namnet på det stycket som gav den liv.
